Almost lost vacation- South Dakota 2004

 Now Found!!!!

It was 101 degrees when we landed in
Rapid City, SD but the next day, it snowed....
We love to visit the National Parks of our Great Country! Many years ago, 2004 actually, we took a family vacation to South Dakota. We made a great big circle tour and saw lots of wonderful landmarks, wildlife and Native Amercian settlements and treasures. While I have never forgotten that trip, it was only recently that I came across the pictures again..pictures that I thought were long lost with a computer crash from years ago. To my great relief, I found them in a totally unrelated file..Yipee!
Here are some I'd like to share

in front of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills

Where the Buffalo roam...Custer State Park, SD

Jellystone Park in SD

Mammoth site near Wall, SD
The landscape, scenery and wildlife were incredible ......
Ready for a chuckwagon ride..

Circle View Ranch in the Badlands

An awesome view aross the terrain
...the history, amazing..the wide open spaces, unbelieveable!

I highly recommend South Dakota as an amazing family vacation. If you have questions about what to see, where to go, etc., please feel free to contact me or leave a comment...

Family Reunion 2010

Every couple of years, my wonderful cousin Leslie and her DH Randy host our family reunion at their big house on Lake Wiley. We shared some wonderful memories, cooked up some goold old southern food and ate and laughed and swam and basically had a blast over the weekend.
Being the family historian, it is always fun for me to share my genealogy research on our family and records stories, take pictures. This year was exceptional as some brought old albums to share....a genealogists dream!! Sadly, we had a few that couldn't make it to this one. There's always 2012!

Cooking Fun for Kids of God

Cooking Fun for Kids of God

Mom doesn’t have to do all the cooking in the kitchen. Everyone can share the load and be happy about it. If it’s one thing that kids know, it’s fun. When an activity is fun, they will come back time and time again to do it. Here are tips for wholesome fun in the kitchen.

When you let kids into the kitchen, not only do they find out that they can prepare a family meal, but you are also teaching them lifelong skills that they can take with them once they are out on their own. So, what are you waiting for? Give them an apron and get to work.

Since we’re on the topic of aprons, this can be the first fun thing to do. Purchase plain aprons from the craft store along with some decorating supplies. Let each kid design their own apron for use in the kitchen.  They'll  like it even more.

What shall we cook? Kids need to know the basics of cooking. Show them how to be safe in the kitchen, how to measure, and how to use the stove top and oven.

Kids have trouble with healthy snacks. Some like them and some don’t. So, let them come up with their own healthy snack recipes using specific ingredients. You decide on the ingredients and set the rules. See what they can do.  Also, when you take tyhem shopping, let them pick out the fruits and veggies. They're more likely to eat what they chose.

After they have mastered snacks, move on to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Before you know it, they will want to prepare a meal all the time. Until then, keep encouraging them and telling them about foods. Being healthy is a part of a rounded spiritual life. We must take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others properly.

For some Biblical fun with cooking, let kids try their hand at preparing traditional meals like in the Bible. Food tasted differently then and they can experience that for themselves. They can sample various fruits and vegetables from other parts of the world. Cooking introduces kids to new tastes, smells, and cooking methods.

The kitchen is the favorite part of many homes. It is where families gather most to share their joys, tears, and laughs over a good meal. Why not let the kids prepare that meal tonight and have a little good family togetherness and fun in the process.

Cedar Key - a wonderful visit

Just got back from a family camp out with my son's boy scout troop. We camped at

Cedar Key....a wonderful place just about an hour west of Gainesville.

A sleepy fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico with oodles of history and scenery. They have purposefully tried to keep it somewhat undeveloped and preserve it's history. An amazing estuary filled with birds and sea life, and the biggest horse shoe crabs I have ever seen in my life (apparently it's mating season and they were every where). The large white pelican (pictured here) were everywhere too. They will be gone soon as they migrate north.

They have 2 big festivals every year in Cedar Key...April 24-25 is their arts and crafts festival and in October they have a large seafood festival.

We also purposely took the scenic route on the drive and saw the lovely town of Inverness and several others too.

If you've never been to Cedar Key, it is worth the trip!!

Just the get away I needed....
