The Fable of the Porcupine

 Fable of the porcupine

It was the coldest winter ever - many animals died because of the cold.

The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together.
This way they covered and protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded
their closest companions even though they gave off heat to each other.

After awhile they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.

So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions
or disappear from the Earth.

Wisely, they decided to go back to being together.

They learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the close relationships
with their companions, but the most important part of it, was the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

Moral of the story:
The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people. The best relationship is when each individual learns to live with the imperfections
of others and admire the other person's good qualities.

Is a computer Male or Female?

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish,

unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'
A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two
groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether
computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to
give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine
gender ('la computadora'), because:
1.. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2 The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el
computador'), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE
the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little
longer, you could have gotten a better model..

The women won.

Poor Pop

Poor old Pop had far more cancerous places to be removed than was first thought. You have to give him credit for cheerfully posing for this picture that my hubby took today. He says he is ready for Halloween....
He's 87.

Aging Parents and Grandparents

This week, both my Mother-in-law and my Father-in-law will have some pretty serious skin cancer surgeries. They are both in their 80's. My husband will be taking time off work to go help them out while they are recovering. I will hold the fort down here with our son in school, etc.

We take for granted that we will have our grandparents around for many years to come, but I see them both slowing down so much over the last few years. They were a bright active, traveling couple when I first met them. I forget that that was over 18 years ago.

I am so glad my son is enjoying the time he has with them and my parents. I was fortunate that he got to be with my grandparents when they were in their 90's. Sadly, he was so little that he doesn't really remember Grandmother Lois but I am glad that he remembers Pappy.

Take time with them while you have them. Parents and Grandparents are a real blessing in our lives.
